I got a chance to work on the book today. Yeah, that's exceptional lately. This sucks because going more than two or three days without my original works makes me a tad screwy in the brain. But hey, I only have twenty pages to go before I'm on the fine-tuning editing pass! Being behind schedule is better than ... uhh ... being moreso behind schedule!

I introduced this one customer dude to bamboo shoots the other day. Have I mentioned lately that I love expanding people's culinary horizons? It was just funny because he was thinking of how huge bamboo grows, and imagining that the shoots would be huge woody chewy scary hunks of ... thing on his plate.

A child-free city. There needs to be a child-free city so I can move there and never have to deal with other people's stupid spawn ever again. I'd say a child-free country, but, y'know, see how the city goes and expand as necessary. Maybe put it on a nice island. Fill the place up with ponies just because.

I've been getting into wanky Fandom!Secrets slapfights lately over stuff like RaceFail and feminism. Seriously, I'm pretty sure the quickest way to make a cause look stupid is to allow its supporters free access to the Internet. You can't even point out a basic truth like "society doesn't change overnight" without some ragey anon crawling up your ass. If intelligent beings find the ruins of Earth civilization some thousands of years from now, computers and books will have long since worn away to nothing, and the only records left will probably be cave drawings of humans attacking things with spears. That'll pretty much sum it up.

Dash managed to buy some Gamecube controllers, so I can actually play Pikmin 2 properly again! \o/ I immediately started reviewing Olimar's commentary on the treasures. Gosh, I forgot how cantankerous some of his comments are. No wonder I like him better in the first game, where he's all noble and goal-oriented and thinking of his beloved family~ Must figure out how this relates to RP.

My old sushi restaurant job wants me back. And at a time when my current job has started a sanity-shredding habit of making me put up with babies. This is a tempting offer indeed. I just feel a little bad, because my current place is really a great spot to waitress except for the whole, "JUST GONNA STAND NEXT TO YOU WITH A SCREAMING NEWBORN ALL NIGHT KTHX PYRES".

In other news, plans for my glorious raid of Worldcon '09 are going well. It'll be like an Otakon trip, except that I'll be flying solo on this trip, no Dashie-buddy, and I'll doing actual career-based stuff instead of just having stupid fun. I hope to be doing a final line edit tweak of my novel by the end of this month, so I have a saleable product finished well before I'm on a bus to Montreal. To aid this goal, I'm not picking up any more RP characters. No, brain. I don't care how awesome Volly the dragon would be in panfandom. Also don't care that you've successfully conjured up a personality profile for the sunflower from Plants vs. Zombies. We're doing just fine with the failthief and the spacedork.

Introduced my grandparents to Thai food the other day. It went well! Thus proving that everything is better with noodles and rice. Everything.

Had a table at work today with two toddlers. They let the brats run all over the restaurant (heedless of waitresses carrying very hot things), take cutlery off tables for toys, throw the pebbles from the base of the water fountain, and drop most of their food all over the floor. Then the older one wets herself. While running around. "She's usually sitting down when she does that," I heard the mother say, in the same tone you comment on the weather in. Wait, wait. So, you know your vermin is poorly trained and prone to urinating all over the place, and you still take it to a nice wine-glasses-and-metal-cutlery restaurant? Because surely everyone wuvs your darling child and doesn't mind anything it does?

I wish humans would stop breeding. Guess I'm spending tonight watching kitten videos on Youtube.

Ever since I heard it in high school French class, I've been fond of bien dans sa peau. It literally means "good in your skin", referring to someone confident and comfortable with themselves. Using it in the "not good in your skin" sense refers to someone angsty or ill at ease. Strikes me as very apt, and you know me, I love a good metaphor.

Ghhh why am I still awake.

But enough about that! My Pikmin addiction -- it's like heroin but cuter -- has finally paid off! I found a glitch that I'm fairly sure no one has documented before.



Half the fun of Pikmin is in making the physics engine throw up its hands and say, "SCREW EVERYTHING".

I'm up at this hour reading old E-mails and stuff. Even the ones from as recently as two years ago, just ... I ... wow. Was I ever a whiny child. I was dealing with a lot, though. And if I'd been told that the child-like protagonist POV was the reason people were insisting my first novel was a children's book, I could have been saved a lot of angst and rage. Oh well! If anybody following this journal remembers that stuff, heh, well, how's it going guys? My second novel is nearly done. I'm happy with it so far.
